Understanding UK jackpot categories, in plain English
Gaming machines in Great Britain are sorted into categories, and the category decides two things that matter to your customers: the most they can stake on a single play, and the biggest prize the machine can pay.
Category C — the standard pub and club machine
This is what most people picture when they think of a fruit machine. A Category C AWP typically takes a maximum stake of £1 per play and pays a top jackpot of £100. It is the workhorse of the trade: familiar to players, quick to play, and the category behind the £100 jackpot machines shown in the gallery above, including our 4 Fantastic Fish and £100 Jackpot AWP cabinets. Category C machines are restricted to adults, so they belong in the parts of your venue where age can be supervised.
Category D — low-stake machines for family venues
Category D covers low-stake, low-prize machines with much smaller stakes and prizes. Because of those limits they are the category generally used in family-friendly settings such as seaside arcades, holiday parks and leisure venues where under-18s are present. If your venue serves families as well as adult drinkers, a Category D machine may be a better fit than a Category C cabinet.
Most pubs with an alcohol licence are automatically entitled to site their first two Category C or D machines by simply notifying the local council — no discretionary permit needed. Want more than two? That takes a Gaming Machine Permit from the local authority, which can cover any number of Category C or D machines (though never the higher-stake B3 category). If your permissions need reviewing before installation, we will tell you plainly rather than press ahead.

Who pays for repairs and spare parts?
We do — all of it. Callouts, parts, labour and replacement cabinets are covered by C.D. Leisure. Report a fault and our engineers aim to have it resolved within five working days. You never receive a repair bill.
How is the 50/50 profit share actually paid?
Our engineer empties the machine on a monthly visit and counts the cash with a member of your team present. Takings are recorded on a statement you keep, the split is calculated at 50/50 and your share is settled at that visit. Nothing is estimated and nothing is hidden.
What happens if the machine is not earning?
Then we change something. Usually that means swapping the game content or moving the cabinet to a better-lit, higher-traffic spot; sometimes it means a different machine altogether. Because our income depends entirely on the machine performing, a poor earner is our problem to solve, not a cost you carry.
Can we choose the games on the machine?
Yes. We will recommend a line-up based on your customers, but the final say is yours, and you can ask us to refresh the titles at any monthly visit. C.D. Leisure covers the servers and the games — our share pays for that essential infrastructure.
How long is the contract and what am I tied into?
The standard agreement runs for 12 months, which is what unlocks the £1,000 signing payment. Prefer not to commit? We also offer a flexible, no-tie-in agreement — you simply won’t qualify for the £1,000 bonus on that route. Either way there is no sign-up fee, no equipment charge and no minimum takings target. Most venues on the 12-month term simply roll the agreement on because the machine keeps paying.
